Frudo Steals the Limelight
At AYC, a routine event in Mumbai, drawing the usual mixed crowd rather than any particular niche, Frudo ran a cart that did both, letting people taste a piece before deciding whether to buy a pack. No pitch decks, no founder panels, just a cart with six flavours, a few open bowls for sampling, and packets stacked alongside for anyone ready to buy on the spot.
The brand, run out of Mumbai, kept the cart simple. Custard apple, mango, banana, pineapple, strawberry, jamun, small bowls of each set out for anyone curious enough to try a piece, with sealed ten gram pouches sitting right next to them for those who wanted to take some home. There was no long queue building up through the day, nothing that would have made the cart stand out from a distance. What it had instead was a steady trickle of people stopping, tasting, and buying.
That was really the story of the day. Someone would glance at the cart, pick up a sample piece, read the pack while chewing, and ask a version of the same question: why does it only list one ingredient. The answer was straightforward. Frudo’s fruit snacks are freeze-dried rather than fried, with nothing added and nothing taken out beyond the water. No added sugar, no preservatives, gluten-free, vegan by default because there was never anything else in the pack to begin with.
The sample piece did most of the convincing. Once people tasted it, buying a packet felt less like a decision and more like a formality. For a ten gram pouch, small enough to slip into a pocket, it made for an easy impulse buy at an event where most people were carrying nothing more than a phone and some cash.
There was no dramatic sell-out moment, no founders scrambling to restock a particular flavour. It was a normal day at a normal event, a cart doing what carts do, moving packets one at a time to whoever stopped long enough to read the label.
What stood out, if anything, was how little persuasion the product needed once someone picked it up. The one-line ingredient list did more work than any pitch could have. People who bought one flavour often came back minutes later for a second, having tried it standing right there at the cart.
For those who didn’t make it to AYC or missed the cart in passing, the same packets are available on Amazon, Flipkart, and directly at frudo.in alongside Frudo’s regular presence on Instagram at @eatfrudo.
It wasn’t a headline moment. It was a cart at an ordinary event, selling a simple product to whoever was curious enough to stop and read the pack. Sometimes that’s the whole story.
