Tauru (Nuh), Haryana, 23rd October 2026 — Rotarian Lal Goel, Founder and Charter President of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International (RCODI) and Chairman of Organ Donation India Foundation and GYAN, congratulated Rotarian Deepak Goel, Foundation Chair of RCODI, for exemplifying Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” through his prompt intervention in a life-threatening medical emergency.
The incident occurred when Rotarian Deepak Goel, who was attending the inauguration of a factory in Tauru, District Nuh, Haryana, was preparing to leave after the ceremony. At that moment, Mr Vikas Goyal, son of his friend Mr Vishnu Prakash Goyal, approached him with chest pain and uneasiness.
Recognising the seriousness of the symptoms, Rotarian Deepak Goel, who is also Chairman of Maa Saraswati Hospital, Mathura, immediately located the nearest medical facility and took Mr Vikas Goyal in his car to a hospital approximately 15 minutes away. This swift response enabled the patient to receive medical care without delay, significantly improving his chances of recovery.
After examining the patient and conducting an electrocardiogram (ECG), doctors suspected a heart attack and administered emergency treatment. The doctor appreciated Rotarian Deepak Goel for bringing the patient to the hospital during the critical ‘golden hour’, thereby helping save his life. As the facility lacked specialised cardiac services, the doctors advised an urgent transfer to a cardiac centre for further care.
Rotarian Deepak Goel then shared the patient’s location with his family. When they arrived, they were relieved to learn that Mr Vikas Goyal had already received initial treatment. The family immediately arranged his transfer to a specialised cardiac hospital in Delhi, approximately two hours away.
Further investigations, including an angiography, revealed a 95% blockage in one coronary artery and 65% blockages in each of the other two arteries. Doctors performed an angioplasty, saving Mr Vikas Goyal’s life.
The act is particularly commendable because Rotarian Deepak Goel was also a VVIP guest at an important dance performance by Ms Hema Malini, renowned cine artist and Member of Parliament from Mathura. Despite the significance of the occasion, he chose to prioritise the medical emergency, demonstrating compassion, presence of mind and an unwavering commitment to humanity.
In a heartfelt message, Mr Vishnu Prakash Goyal, a renowned social worker described Rotarian Deepak Goel as “an angel sent by God,” acknowledging the decisive role he played in securing urgent care for his son.
Congratulating him, Rotarian Lal Goel praised his prompt decision-making, concern for another person’s life and determination to ensure that the patient received appropriate treatment without delay.
“You acted as a true saviour. Your intervention ensured that the patient received emergency medical attention, followed by specialised cardiac treatment. This is the very essence of Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self. Your exemplary act has made every member of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International proud,” said Rotarian Lal Goel.
This incident is a powerful reminder that service to humanity is not limited to organised projects or scheduled activities. Sometimes, a spontaneous decision made at the right moment can make the difference between life and death. Rotarian Deepak Goel has demonstrated that being a Rotarian means being ready to serve whenever and wherever the need arises.
