ROTARIAN LAL GOEL HOLDS BRAINSTORMING SESSION WITH ZTCC MUMBAI PRESIDENT

Mumbai, October 6, 2026: Rotarian Lal Goel, Founder & Charter President of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International (RCODI) and Chairman of Organ Donation India Foundation & GYAN, held a productive and wide-ranging brainstorming session with Dr S. K. Mathur, President of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Mumbai, on the current status and challenges of organ donation and transplantation in Mumbai.

The meeting focused on the present situation of organ donation in Mumbai and across India, with an emphasis on identifying practical and collaborative solutions to increase deceased organ donation and improve access to transplantation.

The two sides discussed in detail the need for establishing Non-Transplant Organ Retrieval Centres (NTORCs) in areas where organ retrieval facilities are currently not available, with the objective of expanding the organ donation network and ensuring that potential deceased donors are not lost due to the absence of nearby retrieval facilities.

Rotarian Lal Goel assured ZTCC Mumbai of the full cooperation of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International in creating greater public awareness about organ donation and in supporting economically weaker patients in accessing financial assistance under the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) of the Government of Maharashtra.

The meeting also discussed the critical need for ensuring long-term, preferably lifelong access to post-transplant immunosuppressant medicines for economically weaker transplant recipients. The high recurring cost of these essential medicines can become a major financial burden and may jeopardize the health and survival of patients if treatment is interrupted.

Dr S. K. Mathur appreciated Rotarian Lal Goel’s unwavering commitment to the cause of organ donation and assured ZTCC Mumbai’s full cooperation in working jointly towards increasing organ donation and transplantation in Mumbai.

Expressing his gratitude, Rotarian Lal Goel thanked Dr S. K. Mathur for his openness, valuable insights and constructive engagement during the brainstorming session.

The meeting concluded on a cordial and positive note, with Rotarian Lal Goel presenting the Rotary Club flag to Dr S. K. Mathur as a symbol of partnership and shared commitment to saving lives through organ donation and transplantation.
